Now in its ninetieth years, Bentley’s first opened its doors in London in 1916. It continues to occupy the same beautiful old Victorian building today. From the outset this famous oyster bar and grill, with its arts and crafts movement-inspired interior and Italian-gothic façade, captured the vibrant mood of a metropolis about to embrace the roaring twenties.
Bentley’s remained a much-loved English landmark when Richard Corrigan arrived as head chef in the early nineties. He was inspired by the emotional importance his English customers attached to this very English restaurant and recognised an affinity with the purity and uncluttered nature of his own style of cooking.
Offered the chance to restore Bentley’s to its former glory when it came up for sale in 2005, Richard embraced the challenge. In November of that year, following a sensitive refurbishment that kept much of the original arts and craft flavour, Bentley’s once again opened its doors to great critical acclaim serving oysters, fish and seafood in much the same way it has since 1916.
In 2008 Richard expanded the Bentley's offering with a sister restaurant Bentley's Townhouse in Dublin. Located in the heart of the city on Dublin's St Stephen's Green the look and feel of the restaurant marries perfectly with Bentley's London. Not only does Bentley's house the oyster bar & grill but also boasts ten bedrooms offering an atmospher of a privately run townhouse.
